Xayah is dangerous, but her whole plan has a setup cost. Her damage and her one real defensive tool, the Bladecaller root, only matter once she has feathers on the ground, and stacking those up takes casts and autos that leave her standing still. Featherstorm gives her a few seconds of safety in the air, but it is on a long cooldown, and outside of it she is a short range, squishy marksman with no dash. The way to beat her is to bully her in the early lane before her kit is set up, poke her down from outside her range, or burst her in the window where her ult is gone. Mages who out range her, lane bullies who out trade her early, and threats that punish her low mobility all give her real trouble. When you pick Xayah, you are betting on hitting clean roots and surviving to the mid game, so respect anyone who can end the lane before she gets there.
