Swain looks unkillable in a long fight, and he often is, but he is one of the least mobile mages in the game: no dash, no blink, nothing but Flash to bail him out. His whole setup runs through Nevermove, a slow wave of a skillshot that only roots on the snap back, so if you sidestep it or simply never let him land it, his combo and his drain fall apart. His Death's Hand cone and his Demonic Ascension drain are short range for a mage, which forces him to step into danger to do his real damage. To beat Swain, kite him, dodge or cleanse the root, and either out range his poke or out sustain his drain until his ultimate runs dry. Enchanters who heal through his damage and wipe his lockdown, and slippery targets he can never pin in place, give him real trouble. When you pick Swain, you are betting you can land that root and survive the brawl, so respect anyone who can keep their distance.
