Ivern is one of the weakest solo fighters in the entire game, and that is the door everyone uses to beat him. He does not clear camps by fighting, he frees them, so he has no real dueling power and crumbles if an enemy jungler simply walks up and forces a one on one. His kit is all about the team: the Rootcaller vine is a thin, fairly slow skillshot that does almost nothing if it misses, and outside of Daisy and his shields he brings little to the table when he is alone and ahead of his group. To beat Ivern, invade him while he is freeing a camp, dodge or respect the Rootcaller root, and punish the fact that he has no way to win the fight back. Early aggressive junglers who can dive him and out duel him give him nightmares, while late scaling carries simply ignore everything he tries. When you pick Ivern, you are betting your laners can convert the help you give them, because you will rarely carry a fight on your own stat sheet.
